Pro Tour Magic Origins

Twelve months, three Pro Tours, a World Magic Cup, a World Championship, and a multitude of Grand Prix have lead us all to this weekend: the fourth and final Pro Tour of the 2014–15 Premier Play Season.

Pro Tour Magic Origins is the culmination of a year of tournament Magic, and will be a weekend that defines the shape of the next year of Premier Play for the world's top players. Pro Tour Players Club statuses will be decided. National champions for the 2015 World Magic Cup will determined. The 24 competitors in the 2015 Magic World Championship will be known.

Oh, and I suppose we'll even have a Pro Tour winner by the end of Sunday too!

Pro Tour Basics

Here is what you need to know about this Pro Tour:

  • The format for Friday and Saturday starts with three rounds of Magic Origins Booster Draft, followed by five rounds of Standard Constructed.
  • All players with a 4-4 record or better at the end of Friday advance to Day Two on Saturday.
  • At the end of Saturday, the Top 8 players advance to Sunday's playoffs.
  • Sunday's matches are all Standard.
  • The Quarterfinals and Semifinals are best two-out-of-three.
  • The Finals are best three-out-of-five.

When Does Coverage Start?

Live video coverage of Pro Tour Magic Origins starts Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 9 a.m. local time (PT)/12 p.m. ET/4 p.m. UTC on the Magic Twitch Channel. Video coverage lasts until the day is complete!

Live video coverage stars Rich Hagon, Brian David-Marshall, Randy Buehler, Marshall Sutcliffe, Tim Willoughby, and R&D's Ian Duke. Player of the Year frontrunner (at least, at the time of writing this) Eric Froehlich will join the rest of the coverage team on Sunday if he is not in the Top 8 as well!

Where Else Can I Experience the Coverage?

We'll have the Twitch stream embedded on the Pro Tour Magic Origins coverage page. You can also watch the live video coverage on NicoNico, and you can get the links to each day's stream on the Pro Tour Magic Origins coverage page.

In addition to that, you can find additional coverage of the Pro Tour at that coverage page. This is where you'll find articles, interviews, decklists, and a whole lot more. So bookmark that page because you'll want to check back often!

When will Decklists be Published from this Pro Tour?

In order to ensure a fair and balanced tournament, we will be withholding all decklists until the last round of Swiss. That's Round 16 on Saturday, at which point our behind-the-scenes crew will be diligently working on adding Standard Constructed decklists to written feature matches from Rounds 4–8 and Rounds 12–16, as well as any Standard feature articles that talk about a deck. If you see the following note at the top of any article:

Decklists will be published once Round 16 begins.

. . . you'll know to check back later in the weekend for updated 60-card goodness.

The Top 8 decklists are published shortly after the end of Saturday, and the top Constructed decklists will be published near the end of Sunday. Remember that we're processing, troubleshooting, and staging what is likely to be over 100 decklists on Sunday, so thanks for your patience as we go through everything that we plan to publish!
